INTRODUCTION
Trauma Centre and Central Emergency, a unit of RIMS, was inaugurated and started functioning in June, 2019. It caters the emergency health needs of population of Jharkhand and nearby state.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Trauma Centre and Central Emergency is a 120 bedded 4-storeyed building situated at RIMS road, having connectivity to the other blocks of RIMS via a covered bridge. Ground floor caters the patients of trauma where patients are triaged based on their severity of injury and given appropriate health care in a triage area consisting of 15 beds. The sick patients requiring surgery are immediately transferred to OR situated on ground floor. Following surgery patients are shifted to respective postoperative wards having a total capacity of 55 beds. The patients requiring intensive care are shifted to a 40 bedded medical intensive care unit situated on 3rd floor, which has required technology to take care of such patients.
ACADEMICS
Currently, three PDCC (post-doctoral certificate course) in critical care medicine has been started since August, 2019. This is a one-year course and all PDCC fellows are selected through an entrance test, which is conducted in July of each year. Department is planning to start DM course in critical care as well as MD course in Emergency medicine in near future. Department conducts multidisciplinary seminars, case discussions, journal clubs and group discussions four times a week for faculty and doctors working in trauma centre and central emergency. All faculty are also involved actively in various teaching and training programs for nursing staff and technicians regularly. Besides, department organizes various CMEs and workshops for doctors and nurses. All academic activities are strictly regulated by senior faculty members and record of each activity is well maintained.
RESEARCH
There is a DRC (departmental research committee) constituted to screen research proposal at the departmental level. In future, department is expected to run various research activities and details will be updated soon on website.
FUTURE PLANS
This centre will be a boon for the state of Jharkhand, where road accidents are common. Our goal is to provide comprehensive trauma care and emergency medical services to the patients of road accidents, poisoning and toxicities, and all acute medical conditions.

EDUCATION
FACILITIES
The department is well equipped with modern ventilators, ABG Machine, ECG Monitor, Cardiac Beds, bronchoscope, portable ultrasound, defibrillator and infusion pumps among many others. There are two ICUs for advanced medical care, the Medicine ICU and the neurosurgery ICU. All doctors, nurses and paramedical staff work in shifts to provide care to serious patients 24x7. The patients are provided nutrition via enteral tubes, or veins (central/peripheral). Strict hygienic conditions are maintained and the all the floors of building are cleaned every day. A new separate Dialysis Wing with four advanced machines will be setup soon to provide dialysis 24x7 for critically ill patients. Additionally, we have our separate team of biomedical staff and technicians who provide round the clock assiatance to maintain and set up various technological tools.
