INTRODUCTION
The department of Skin, STD & Leprosy was shifted from Sadar Hospital to the RMCH building in the year 1964. Dr. B.N. Prasad was the first head of department. In the year 1972 permission was granted for the post graduated courses. M.D.(Skin,STD & Leprosy )and diploma(DVD) . These were recognized by the MCI in the year 1990 Dr. A.K. Singh took over as the HOD from 1998 . Presently the department is successfully running under Dr. S. S. Choudhary.
DESCRIPTION
The total no. of beds is 66. The department has a well-equipped operation theatre having electro cautery and skin surgery .There are experimental labs having facilities for AFB smear, gram staining etc. There is a dark room. The labs have adequate number of microscopes, centrifuging machines etc. There are 2 LASERS one is the fractional CO2 LASER and the other is Q switched NdYag LASER by which pigmented lesions and many benign tumors are removed .

Workshops- 4-5 per year
Tutorial classes, Journal discussions & Case presentations are done weekly.
FUTURE PLANS
1. Apart from LASER, PUVA Chambers of partial and whole body are some of the projects in the pipeline.
2. Education and patient care will be improved gradually in the future by the hard work of the doctors and students.

EDUCATION
Undergraduate:-
Assessment of students is based upon the semester exams which are held regularly.
Postgraduate:-
Presently there are 3 MD and 6 Diploma seats in the departments .Monthly assessment tests, Seminars and bedside discussions are held for the student’s .Workshops, CMEs are held for the students.
FACILITIES
For Students-
Ward Duties and bedside training starts from the 3rd semester. Lectures, Tutorials and practical are held .There is a departmental library as well.
For Patients-
Hygienic conditions are maintained in the wards, OPD and OT. The toilets are kept clean and the department has an intricate waste disposal system.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Conference is held every 3 years .State conference of JAVDL are held regularly. In November 2007, East zone Conference of JAVDL was held here and organizing president was Dr (Prof) B.N. Prasad. The organizing Secretary was Dr. (Prof) S.S. Choudhary while the was D.K. Mishra.
A state level conference was held in the year 2009 which saw the participation of doctors from all over the state.
