INTRODUCTION
The blood bank at RIMS was established in 1964 in erstwhile R.M.C.H. It is presently recognized as “STATE OF ART MODEL BLOOD BANK AND DEPTT. OF TRANSFUSION MEDICINE,RIMS”. The blood bank maintains quality control of products as per the guidelines of Govt. of India.It gets assistance as NACO supported blood bank since 2006,it is licensed for whole blood supply and collection,separation of blood components and Single Donor Aphaeresis {SDP}.After Jamshedpur the RIMS blood bank is the 2nd place in Jharkhand to provide blood components like FFP, platelets and packed cells since 28,In 2011,the “STATE OF ART MODEL BLOOD BANK” was renamed as “STATE OF ART MODEL BLOOD BANK AND TRANSFUSION MEDICINE”.The blood bank started providing SDP facility with aphaeresis to its patients from 215 and has become the 1st Govt. Blood Bank equipped with APHAERESIS MACHINE.Dr. RK Srivastava is presently in charge of the blood bank.
FUTURE PLANS
To make the blood bank fully automated & computerized with online display and paperless work. The blood bank aims to provide NAAT Testing facility in near future.

FACILITIES
For Students-
The blood bank provide internship programs for UG students,rotational training for PG students of pathology, and project work for Biotechnology students.They are guided by the Professors and Medical Officers of the department .The internship program is carried out for 15 days to 2 months as per their requirements. They are provided with adequate information and training during their period of internship.Blood bank provides training for paramedical students in blood bank services.
For Patients-
The blood bank provides blood or components to the needy patients for their survival .Blood components such as FFP, platelets, PRP, Cryoprecipitate, and SDP are available for patients in need.In cases of emergency or accidents,the blood is provided to the patients as per their requirement.
