INTRODUCTION

From congential defects for variable physiology neonates and children have distinctive constellations of problems and complex surgical needs rarely seen in adults.

Pediatric Surgery specializes in the surgical treatment of children’s disorders, including neonatal & prenatal surgery, child trauma & child oncology. It requires love of children, understanding of their unique physiology, and delicate surgical techniques. Pediatric Surgeon typically performs the gastrointestinal , thoracic,vascular, transplant & trauma care of the patient .

The aim of the department is to provide highest level of Surgical Care to neonates , infants& children.

The dept. caters to a large geographical area serving the whole of Jharkhand, neighboring districts in Bihar,West Bengal,Chattisgarh,Madhya Pradesh & Odisha since it is only specialized centre in this area.

INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department has a total of 52 beds,viz. 32 general ward beds ,10 beds in Surgical NICU , 10 Surgical PICU, 3 Pre- Operative beds in the theatre complex. The dept. has 2 Modern Operation Theatre on the 5th floor and a mirror OT in the OPD complex, a small Path ,Lab for routine investigation along with a sample collection centre.Waiting hall for patients in OPD section,wards & hospital along with Pantry & Nursing Station for mothers to feed their babies and a Nursing Station for Feeding Formulations are available.

FUTURE PLANS

The dept will be starting Post- Doctoral M.Ch course in the subject of Pediatric & Neonatal surgery as soon as permission is granted from RU & MCI and shall be admitting 4 Senior Residents for this degree every year Milk banking facilities will also be made available to neonatal surgical patient.A library with modern facilities & a seminar with updated audio-visual aids are in the pipeline.
