The department came up as Eye & ENT dept. in 1964 with Prof. Dr. R.P.H. Sinha as the first Head of the Department. ENT was then separated from eye in 1972 & Prof. Dr. A.N. Sinha became its first HOD. Dr. Achyatanad Sinha, Dr. Raghav Sharan, Dr. R.M. Rai, Dr. I.B. Prasad, Dr. Chandrakant subsequently headed the department. Dr. Sandeep Kumar is the present HOD.
Activities
Ward & Bedside teaching in OT & OPD are conducted. Seminars, Workshops & CMEs are organized on a regular basis where faculty from state & country are invited.
OPD
The ENT OPD is located in the ground floor, near the emergency dept. Cases of CSOM, nasal masses, Allergic rhinitis; VMR, thyroid etc. are referred to the dept. from peripheral centres.
WARD/INDOOR
The indoor ward is located on the third floor of the hospital with 2 units headed respectively by Dr. P.K. Singh & Dr. R. K. Pandey, consisting of a total of 100 beds.
Admission of patients is done either through Emergency or OPD section.
Statistics History
- OPD - Around 38, 240 patients attended ENT-OPD from July’15-June’16.
- Major OT - About 610 major operations done from July’15-June’16.
- Minor OT - About 66800 minor operations done from July’15-June’16.
CONFERENCES & MEETINGS
39th Bihar & Jharkhand State AOI conference & 7th East Zonal Conference was held from 10th – 13th December 2015 where Cadaveric dissection on FESS, live surgeries of OSA, micro-laryngeal surgeries etc were performed along with presentations, quiz & essay competition for the students.
Future Plans
- Cochlear Implant Surgery, Temporal bone dissection to be conducted in the near future by the dept.
- The dept. is looking forward to Modular OT & OPD services.
Education
- Undergraduate - The dept. strictly follows the prescribed curriculum of MCI. Regular lectures, Tutorials & practicals are organized for the students. Assessment is done on a day to day basis with periodicals, vivas & mock tests.
- Postgraduate - Lectures, tutorials & practical classes are organized regularly for the PG students. Ward & Bedside teaching is also provided to them daily.
Facilities
- For Students - Experimental labs for UG & PG students. Audio- Visual facility is available along with ward teachings.
- For Patients - The dept. is well equipped with equipments like Endoscopes, Microdebrider, Radiofrequency ablation etc. Emergency services are available in the ENT OT round the clock for cases like nasal bone fracture, cut throat, fracture of facial bones etc. Micro laryngeal & Maxillofacial surgeries are also performed with utmost precision.
