Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Introduction

The department was started in the year 1962 with Dr. (Prof) M. Quadros as the first HOD.

Description

The building structure is well ventilated. The department has indoor ward and labour room, routine OT, seminar room, tutorial room, pathology, USG room, music room and EMOC training room.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE AND OBSTETRIC CARE TRAINING (EMOC)

This programme comes under the National Rural Health mission (NRHM) initiated by the government of India. At RIMS, currently the obstetrics and gynecology department, the anesthesia department and the pediatrics department impart EMOC training. The participants here are given lectures and hands on training in the operation theatres. A number of seminars are conducted for them. The whole programme is funded by the Federation of obstetrics and gynecological society of India (FOGSI) and the State Government.

Statistics

  • OPD Attendance (2015) – 38,211.

OPD

  • Works 6 days a week from 8:00 AM to 01:00PM and from 03:00PM to 05:00 PM
  • Ultrasonography, PAP smear, ANC & PNC check-up are available. On an average 150 patients attend the OPD everyday.

Ward/Indoor

  • Ward is located on the fourth floor of the hospital building & can be reached easily through lifts.
  • It is equipped with 162 beds, distributed among 6 units, & 9 labour tables.
  • Patients are attended to by nurses 24x7 and by doctors during their rounds.

Future Plans

  • To increase number of beds and colonoscopy to be started in OPD.

Education

  • For Undergraduate:-
    • Log book for clinical cases.
    • Periodical examinations, mock tests and university examination
  • For Postgraduate:-
    • Examining patients in OPD
    • Participation in conferences, inter-state quiz competition.

Facilities

  • For Students - Lecture theatre, Seminar rooms with A.C., LCD procedure, tutorial room, museum, departmental library and audio-visual facilities for regular semiars and CMEs.
  • For Patients - The ward has 162 beds with lockers and 28 beds in labour room. There is free distribution of drugs for obstetrics patients. USG machine is present in labour room for emergency cases. The department provides free food and clean drinking water to the patients.
