The Department of Pharmacology started in the year 1960 at RMCH. The first head of the department was Dr. K.D. Chowdhry. Subsequently Dr. R.K. Dutta, Dr. R.K. Prasad, Dr. Nandita Dasgupta and Dr. Janardan Sharma became the HODs. Respectively. Presently Dr. (Mrs.) Manju Gari is heading the department. Right from the beginning, the dept. has been recognized for its undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Description
The department is linked to all surgical branches. Apart from psychiatric procedures, therapeutic, diagnostic and other medical procedures are regularly performed in an excellent infrastructure. LSAS training for EMoC is being conducted here for Rural Medical Officers under the NRHM, G.O.I.
Activities
- Undergraduate - Besides studies, students are encouraged to take part in interactive session, research work under ICMR project.
- Postgraduate - PG students take part in regular reporting of Adverse Drug Reaction cases from different dept., seminar presentation, poster presentation and journal club activities. Each student is encouraged to take part in national conference and paper publication.
Future Plans
CAL LAB (Computer Associated Learning) is in the pipeline. The dept. is soon going to procure the necessary computer and software to facilitate experiments and research works. The aim is to run Dept. of Clinical Pharmacology for which efforts are being made to get required infrastructure.
Education
- Undergraduate - Student performance is assessed by periodical terminal and viva examinations.
- Postgraduate - Student performance is assessed on the basis of log book of day to day performance. It includes evaluation of their study, seminar presentation competition.
Facilities
- For Students - Dept. has fully functioning experimental lab, pharmacy lab, museum & seminar rooms.
- For Patients -
- Dept. works as a regional center of Adverse Drug Monitoring under Indian Pharmacopeia Commission. The center is working as one of the best center in India for reporting adverse drug reaction cases.
- For monitoring treatment efficacy, facility of therapeutic drug monitoring is available in the department.
